Installing BookTrakker v3.4 over v2.1

Safeguard your data before Installation

Backup your current database.

Send us a copy of your database.

		Click on the SendDB icon on your desktop and follow instructions,
		OR, locate the Windows Start button at the bottom left of your screen: Point to Programs, next point to BookTrakker, then point and click on SendDB to begin the file transfer. Sequence: [Start > Programs > BookTrakker > SendDB]

Notify us that you have sent us your Database.

8 When the file transfer is completed, send Email notification to mailto:support@booktrakker.com that you have sent your files to assure your files will not be deleted until you have finished restoring them.

Wait until you receive Email confirmation from us that we have received your database.

8 After we are notified that you have sent your Database, we check the file to verify that everything is in order. After verification, we will email you that your data has been received and that you can proceed to Install the new version.

Proceed with Installation

Carefully read and follow the Installation Instructions provided below. If you have any questions email us at support@booktrakker.com.

Download and install v3.4, or install using installation CD.

Purchase a Key Code for the Edition you want and Register Program before expiration of the 30-day grace period.

What happens if I do not purchase the Key Code within 30 days?
You will not lose any data, but you will lose functionality. Purchasing the Key Code will restore functionality.

Installation Instructions

BEFORE DOWNLOADING v3.4 READ INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.

WARNING Do not attempt to install more than one copy of BookTrakker on your computer.

Before starting to install program, Close all programs you have running, especially virus-checking software. Some of the anti-virus programs look for certain types of behavior patterns instead of specific virus codes. Remember to turn the anti-virus program back on when installation is complete.

*ZoneAlarm: The most recent update of ZoneAlarm is compatible with BookTrakker and does not need to be turned off during download. Older versions of ZoneAlarm are not compatible and need to be turned off before installation then turned on again when installation is complete.

Next, locate the BT34Setup.exe file placed on your computer when you downloaded v3.4. If you do not know what folder you downloaded the BT34Setup.exe into, do Start > Search > Files or folders and type in BT34Setup.exe and click Search. When you find it, follow instructions:

Make sure BookTrakker is closed. Double-click on the BT34Setup.exe file to begin installation of BookTrakker, or click Open when you download the file. (You should only do this if you have high speed Internet.) The first image you will see is:

Please ignore the discrepancies between images and what you see. Please also read Installing 3.4 instructions as well as the instructions below. Installing 3.4 is the updated instructions for new users, parts of it also applies to 2.1 users.

If you do not have .NET Framework 2.0 installed then BookTrakker will do that, according to the Installing 3.4 instructions. After doing the .NET Framework install installation will resume following these instructions:

This process of preparing to install may take some time, especially on slower machines. Please be patient.

When this is done, you get:

Click Next. After this point you may click Back where it is offered to go back and make sure you made the right selection.

Click Next.

Read the license agreement. Click where it says "I accept" if you accept, otherwise click Cancel to cancel the installation. If you accept the license, then:

Click Next:

This is where the install process backs up your database. Use the default location, so click OK. If you know how to change this, then you may do so. If you don't know, then just click OK, to get:

After the Backup is done, you will see this:

The Release notes detail new features in BookTrakker Version 3.4. Please read, then click Next. You can copy them if you like.

Decide who has access to this program, then click Next. For most users you want to leave it at the default.

Again, leave this at the default, unless you have a partitioned drive, and want to use a different drive letter. Do NOT install in Program Files or anywhere else other than the BTPro folder off the drive letter selected.

Decide if you are installing on your only computer or a satellite machine. If you only have one computer then click Next. If this is the server computer for a network then click Next. Only change to Network Client if you are installing on a satellite computer on a Network.

If you are installing on a Network installation, you MUST install 3.4 on every computer before using the new version. Failure to do so may result in irreversible consequences. After deciding between single computer or Network installation, Click Next, to get:

If everything is correct, click Next.

Wait. Depending on the speed of your computer this could take a few seconds to several minutes.

Wait.

Click OK.

Click Finish.

Click Yes to restart your computer. Your computer MUST be restarted for BookTrakker to work properly. Failure to restart after installation could cause problems with BookTrakker operation.

After restarting your computer look for the BookTrakker icon on your desktop and doubleclick to run the program.

You will see this:

BookTrakker is converting the database files from Jet 3.51 to Jet 4.0, a more modern database design. When this is done, (it may take awhile) you get:

Ignore this box, it does not apply to upgrades from 2.1. Click Cancel. When BookTrakker opens:

Please click the Online button, then do File > Upload Error Log. Email support@booktrakker.com that you have done this, we will then check for possible errors in the update process. Needless to say you do not want to make any changes until you hear back from us.
